Dear Mr. Lamantia,

 

The Philadelphia Eagles' players have decided that the Michael Vick should receive your prestigious award.  I find that repugnant, obnoxious and insulting not only to Ed Block's memory but to all of those previous recipients who deservingly received the honor.  Can you please explain to me exactly what Michael Vick has done to this Courage Award?  Is it because he felt so "courageous" while executing dogs?  Psychologically speaking, I would bet  it made him feel powerful and, controlling and most certainly satisfied his blood lust...all documented traits of a sociopath.  Should he receive a reward in courage for the turmoil, racial divide and near violence he brought to the city of Philadelphia?  His supporters emulate his "courageous" behavior every home game by their violent expressions against those who peacefully protest Vick's presence as a Philadelphia Eagle.  Does that take "guts"? Or maybe he is deserving because he proved just how much crime pays...he served 2 years in a federal penitentiary and waltzed into a 1.6 million dollar contract. (And please do not insult my intelligence by repeating the mantra that he "did his time").  Yesterday, Ike Reese ( a former Philadelphia Eagle) stated on a radio program that he felt Vick was deserving just because he spent time in prison.  Does take speak volumes about the misconception of the intention of this award?  Possibly he deserves the award in courage because it's all about him and by his own words he feels he is an exemplary human specimen and I quote: "I've had to overcome a lot, more than probably one single individual can bear," Vick said." Take a look at what I've been through. You ask certain people to walk in my shoes; they probably couldn't do it -- probably 95 percent of the people in this world. Because nobody had to endure what I've been through -- situations I've been put in, situations I've placed myself in, decisions that I've made --
whether they were good or bad. There are always consequences behind certain things and there are repercussions behind them, too.
Then you have to wake up every day and face the world, whether they perceive you in the right perspective or it's a totally different
outlook on you."  His words are startlingly insightful and allow us to glimpse into his overblown, egomaniacal conception of self.

 

You have to hand it to this narcissistic moron, by his own admission he validates what forensic psychiatrists have researched for decades regarding sociopathic/ narcissistic personalities.  Michael Vick exists in a world whose morality and ethics are beyond yours and mine.  His aberrant personality cannot fathom the righteous code we live by.  That belies courage, mocks our sensibilities and the very essence of what Ed Block intended this award to be.  Courage, like respect is earned, not earmarked by a bunch of NFL players on a Philadelphia Team who have proven in this instance to have a collective IQ of three.

 

Michael. Vick has not ONCE apologized for the cold blooded, sadistic torture and killing of the dogs who suffered at his hands. That indeed would take courage. Instead he mouths and repeats the same "canned" responses put forth by his PR handlers...empty, empty, meaningless words.  Michael Vick does not have a clue about the meaning of courage and what it implies.  He is what he is: an ex-con with a self-serving outlook/attitude.  If he had any idea, he would graciously decline; knowing his only accomplishment to date was serving his sentence and being gainfully employed.  He should be thankful for the opportunity the NFL has provided him, particularity Jeffery Lurie instead of bemoaning his unhappiness as a Philadelphia Eagle and I quote: "I won't be a Wildcat guy. I can't," Vick told NBC. "It's a different style of play. It's almost like a hit-or-miss type of thing. My position is quarterback. That's what I was born to do."  So you tell me Mr. Lamantia, is Michael Vick a courageous player worthy of Ed Block's award and just who has the courage and backbone to put an end to this mockery?
